The Chairman is the title held by the primarch of the Hegemony. The position is analogous of a King. While the CEO would be closer to a Prime Minister.
Currently the Chairman's position is being held by Theresa Shuvanaljis. Theresa is a direct descendant of Herald Shuvanaljis (five generations removed).
Theresa ascended to power when her father retired some 15 (Earth) years ago. Her leadership style is somewhat light, preferring her Lieutenants to be the heavy enforcers, when such unpleasantness is required.
She is adept and remaining friendly and motivating to all those that serve her, and enjoys a very high (legitimately) approval rating. Theresa is married and has two sons, who are being groomed to take her place in approximately another 15 years.

Henry Security Company
The Hegemony's Black Fleet counterpart is the Henry Security Company. It's a wholly owned subsidiary of Shuvinaljis LTD. It's forces comprise five complete Task Groups, and all crew members are graduates of the Henry academy. Only the brightest and most loyal of the service are eligible to attend.
Unlike the Black fleet, the ships of the Company are nearly identical to those of the line duty fleet.
Duties of the fleet include core world defense, line fleet training, and most of the Chairman's ceremonial needs. Secretive Black Ops are assumed, but none of the black ops that have been discovered, have ever been traced to the Company.

Confederate Fleet
The Lian Confederation's naval forces are relatively smaller but much in advance of their Hegemonic counterparts.
The Naval force is divided into three separate fleets. White, Grey, and Black.
The White Fleet is operated by the various academies and schools of the fleet, and offers the ability to train officers and crew in an on-the-job fashion with direct supervision of their instructors.
The Grey Fleet is also sometimes referred to as the line duty fleet. The Grey Fleet comprises 70% of the force.
The Black Fleet is an elite force comprised of technologically advanced ships, veteran and highly intelligent crew members, and is highly secretive. Black fleet officers outrank officers of the same rank in the other fleets. Black fleet encounters are rare, and often contentious, and the enemy has been known to run from the site of black fleet elements, even when enemy forces far outclass or outnumber them.

Their names are Liberty, Independence, Freedom, Deliverance, and Autonomy. The secret vessel is named Sovereignty and is currently inactive in Black Fleet Reserve.

Alter-Space
Alter-space is an abbreviation of Alternate Space. A series of alternate dimensions that mirror our own, but are smaller in size. The drive slides a vessel from our dimension into an alternate one. The vessel travels to it's destination and then returns to normal space. This allows interstellar travel from one star system to another in days rather than years.
The more energy that is placed into the drive, the further into alter-space the vessel can slip, allowing faster travel times. Once power is drained from the drive, the vessel slips back into the dimension from which it came.
Vessels are required to place an enormous amount of energy into the drive, and sometimes are not able to sustain the power input into the drive. As a result, ships that lack a "Balanced Drive" are unable to travel to their destination with one slip. Larger vessels almost always have a balanced drive, while smaller ones almost never.
A destroyer traveling from one star system to it's neighbor (suppose 5 light years) can make the journey in three days. Travel from one side of the Hegemony to the other (along it's long axis) would take the better part of a year.

The rise to prominence was meteoric, and after the development of the alter-space drive they held the reigns of interstellar power. Nothing, could be accomplished without the drive. Exploration, freight, even information, all were delivered via their technology. And when the government of the Republic tried to leverage eminent domain, Shuvanaljis saw them coming a mile away and was ready. The fight was short but intense. In the end, Shuvanaljis held their own, and managed to cripple the government's forces. Shuvanaljis quickly moved in and with support from other corporations, managed to reduce the power and scope of the Republic to little more than a puppet show. In the subsequent decades, Shuvanaljis went on a glut of spending to purchase most of their competitors and set up a nearly iron clad hold on the control and governance of 15 star systems. In just over 60 years, a corporate entity had direct control of over fourteen billion people.
